THIS WEEK IN 1ST GRADE

Mrs. Maxey shared field trip reminders, Reading STAR testing, the toiletry drive, a CYO sportsmanship shout-out, learning goals, and upcoming October and November dates.

THIS WEEK
  • Thank you to everyone who helped fill the extra field trip spots. If you haven’t already, please turn your background check information in to the front office as soon as possible.
  • Library Day is Thursday. Please check around the house for any books that need to be returned.
  • CYO Sportsmanship Spotlight: When the opposing team ran short on players at Saturday’s game, several first graders stepped up so everyone could participate. Mrs. Maxey thanked them for putting hospitality and respect into action.
REMINDERS
  • Toiletry Drive: Please donate items through October 21. All donations benefit the YWCA.
  • Reading STAR testing is this week.
LEARNING THIS WEEK
Math: Teen numbers; breaking apart and adding more tens.
ELA Skills: Students will orally blend and segment single-syllable words with up to 4 phonemes.
Religion: How does God show his love in our lives?
Social Studies: Understanding rural communities.

Mrs. Maxey shared this week’s Math STAR testing reminder, spelling update, toiletry drive news, learning goals, and upcoming October dates.

THIS WEEK
  • Math STAR testing is this week. Please make sure students eat a good breakfast each day.
  • Graded spelling tests are going home Tuesday. Mrs. Maxey is proud of the students for practicing at home!
  • The class has begun its toiletry drive. Thank you to everyone who has already donated. The class is partnering with the YWCA for this drive.
REMINDERS
  • All homework, spelling, and math go home on Mondays.
  • If your student is missing something, extras are available by the classroom mailboxes all week.
LEARNING THIS WEEK
Math: Subtraction and number bonds.
ELA Skills: Students will identify common nouns that name a person in orally presented phrases and simple sentences.
Religion: God is love.
Social Studies: Exploring our communities.

THIS WEEK IN 1ST GRADE

Mrs. Maxey shared this week’s ELA MAP testing reminder, the start of spelling tests, classroom reminders, learning goals, and upcoming fall dates.

THIS WEEK
  • ELA MAP testing is Tuesday. Please make sure students eat breakfast so they are ready for testing.
  • Spelling tests begin Friday. Spelling lists are coming home today; please practice this week.
REMINDERS
  • Please return your child’s pizza form soon so they don’t miss out.
  • Library books are due every other Thursday, but students may return them to the classroom bin at any time.
  • Snacks should be packed in separate containers or a bag, not inside the lunchbox.
LEARNING THIS WEEK
Math: Greater than and less than; numbers 1–20.
ELA Skills: Individual assessments; orally producing single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.
ELA Knowledge: Moral of the Story — fables and tales.
Social Studies: Rural, suburban, and urban communities.

THIS WEEK IN 1ST GRADE

Mrs. Maxey shared this week’s MAP testing reminder, November field trip details, learning goals, and upcoming September dates.

FIELD TRIP • NOVEMBER 20

1st Grade will visit the Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett on November 20. The class is capped at 6 chaperones. Mrs. Maxey plans to email the SignUpGenius on Thursday, September 17 at 5:30 PM so everyone has an equal chance to sign up.

All chaperone paperwork must be completed with the front office before the trip. For later field trips, parents who have not helped before will be prioritized.

REMINDERS
  • MAP testing begins Tuesday morning, September 15.
  • MAP testing will also take place the following Tuesday morning, September 22.
LEARNING THIS WEEK
Math: Individual assessments continued; numbers 1–20.
ELA Skills: Individual assessments; orally producing single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.

THIS WEEK IN 1ST GRADE

Mrs. Maxey shared this week’s classroom schedule updates, EA support information, reminders, learning goals, and upcoming September dates.

CLASSROOM UPDATE

Starting this week, 1st Grade will begin splitting with 2nd Grade for Social Studies and Science, in addition to the existing PE and Spanish splits.

Mrs. Maxey also addressed questions about Educational Assistant (EA) support. While Kindergarten is the only grade with a full-time dedicated EA, 1st Grade has support from various EAs throughout almost the entire school day.

REMINDERS
  • Homework & Reading Logs go home Tuesday and are due Friday.
  • Water bottles go home Fridays to be washed.

BACK TO SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

AUG 30

Mrs. Maxey welcomed 1st Grade families and shared the first reminders for a smooth start to the school year.

CLASSROOM REMINDERS
  • First day: September 1 with noon dismissal.
  • Students should bring a labeled water bottle. Water bottles go home each Friday to be washed.
  • Please label sweaters and vests with your student’s name.
  • No stuffed animals, fidgets, or toys are allowed in the classroom.
  • Mrs. Maxey has some volunteer-hour opportunities that can be completed at home.
  • Parents are welcome to attend Friday Mass and sit with their student.
